i waited…

…until I had more content to post this week, thus why I didn’t post Monday. Monday would’ve just been a whole bunch of gifs I made on the reface app. LOL.

I did not do much sewing the past week. I guess I did so much last weekend that I took a break LOL. How often do I get to take a weeklong sewing break in August? Last time that happened was probably… 2001 before I started going to Dragoncon.

Movies… what did we watch in the last week. Last week Chase’s pick was Shawshank Redemption which I’d never seen and really enjoyed. Mine was North by Northwest which I also loved and I think Chase liked it too. I loved mid-century-ness of it. Also, as a longtime MST3K fan, one of my favourite moments in life is when suddenly a riff I’ve heard a hundred times makes sense when you unexpectedly hear it from the source. “This is no good, we’re on top of the monument!”

Next rentals were Better Off Dead – Chase’s pick. He hadn’t seen it since it was new and wanted to see it again… but decided it was weird about a half hour in and we abandoned it. My choice was Jacob’s Ladder… in keeping with the Tim Robbins streak we had going on (Top Gun, Shawshank…). I’ve always read it was an inspiration for Silent Hill, and I’ve read about it several times, but never seen it, so it was nice to finally sit down and watch it.

Taking a break this week but next choice will either be Sound of Music or the Exorcist. Quite the extremes. (Fun fact, I’ve never seen Sound of Music and decided it’s time. I’ve seen Exorcist. But not in a longtime.)

I’m also nearing the end of season 2 of Twin Peaks. Then I’ve got to figure out where I can watch season 3.

So onto costume stuff..
Last week I pulled out my Lina Inverse costume because I needed reference of the shoulder armor for my current art project. And discovered…

My Lina Inverse/Buffy Summers pants are DEAD. It got even worse after this photo as I handled them and more of the red vinyl flaked off. I let them sit in my sewing room for a couple of days before I did throw them away. There’s no saving them and even if there was, they’d never fit me ever again. They were slightly too small for me back then and only fit by virtue of their stretchiness.

And in some long-awaited Liberty Dies Padme news… I finally got some velvet for this!!

Huge shoutout to IG @leiaaurora who kept an eye out for some purple velvet for me in the LA fabric stores and found this and shipped it to me. No more ordering swatches and waiting 3 weeks on it to arrive and then starting all over again when it didn’t match. Now I can finally dig into this costume.

Went swimming saturday. Then Sunday I filmed tiktok stuff most of the day; I wanted to get spin video of all my main Disney characters. I did Snow White, Tink, Aurora (with the updated costume! first time putting it on!), Belle, Meg, Jane, Merida (with a new wig!)… and I had wanted to do Giselle but it doesn’t fit and no room to let it out. So I did Tightrope Walker. It was fun but tiring.

Got my sewing room cleaned back up from that and got back to working on this Padme shrug.

Last night I got the four panels gathered at the shoulder and sewn together at the side/arm seams, and then at the center back.

Now I’m struggling with having to cut the excess length off. I’m really loving it super long like it currently is… makes me feel like Padme meets Rose Dewitt-Bukater and maybe I should just leave it long, add a sash and wear it around the house as an over the top dressing gown. But I’d never wear it because I never wear something like a dressing gown LOL.

Goal is to wear this to Disneyworld where of course I can’t have a foot of fabric dragging the ground. In the photo above I just kinda sloppily pinned up one side to get an idea of how it was going to look.

And here’s the front with one side pinned up. My goal is to have the front panels curved at the bottom (to mimic the curve of the gather of the actual lake dress), and angled in the back with a longer “point” at the center back.

Now I just have to make myself cut it. After this is finished, I’m going to move into Arwen’s hope dress… I guess, my spoonflower fabric still hasn’t shipped and it’s now over their estimated production time. I may keep tinkering with disneybound stuff until it arrives. I still have to put snaps on the Leia jacket, and make my Dale hat.

And…. guess what, I actually just finished an art project!! If you go check out my costume page you’ll see it!

For years I’ve wanted to have all the costume icons on my costume page as the costume on a dressform. But since there’s a good number of costumes I either don’t have anymore or CAN’T go or fit on a dressform, it never worked out. Then one day I was like, why don’t I just draw them all on a dressform? It’s taken me a few months but I just finished them up this weekend. I’m pretty happy with it. I may use them elsewhere for other stuff.

Beyond that… everything else “new” on my phone are videos or gifs from that reface app. Putting Kevin’s face on everything has made me laugh so hard lately.

I haven’t had near as much fun with my own face. At first the app kept adding these deep nasolabial folds to my face everytime, even though I don’t really have folds there and the source material didn’t have them, either. I finally took a selfie sunday while I had makeup on for the disney video shoot and that one seems to be working better. It’s still kinda doing it but I finally got some results I didn’t hate.

My face works better on ROTJ-era Leia than ANH-era.

Until next week…
